Read the title; 'nuff said。 Delivers what it says it will。 This is not an elaborate book。 It is a beginner's guide to buddhist concepts, from the perspective of a secular teacher。 Even having understood much about buddhism, coming back to basics was a good experience。 Read the title; 'nuff said。 Delivers what it says it will。 This is not an elaborate book。 It is a beginner's guide to buddhist concepts, from the perspective of a secular teacher。 Even having understood much about buddhism, coming back to basics was a good experience。 。。。more

Reading from different authors on the same concept, helps us see the same thing from a different angle, giving us a whole new perspective。 I came to know about this book from his secular Buddhism podcast, which is another platform to hear Buddhist ideas from someone who knows it very well! With real life stories, this book has simplified the complex noble truths for me。 It's a must try for people trying to learn about Buddha and his teachings。 Reading from different authors on the same concept, helps us see the same thing from a different angle, giving us a whole new perspective。 I came to know about this book from his secular Buddhism podcast, which is another platform to hear Buddhist ideas from someone who knows it very well! HelpfulThe book was quite informative。 It's helped me get a better understanding of Buddhism and that it's a possible path I'd like to follow。 The everyday Buddhism parts of the book helped make connections with real life and what the teachings of Buddhism are。 HelpfulThe book was quite informative。 It's helped me get a better understanding of Buddhism and that it's a possible path I'd like to follow。 The everyday Buddhism parts of the book helped make connections with real life and what the teachings of Buddhism are。 。。。more

A brilliant book for explaining the basic concepts of Buddhism without a lot of words that are not familiar to the reader。This books explains things well and shows the reader how they can follow Buddhist concepts without having to wander round in red and orange robes whilst abstain for the rest of the their lives。A great start for anyone looking for guidance in bettering themselves。

I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this book! As this is the first I’ve read on Buddhism, I do not have anything to compare it to, however I found it so easy to understand, well structured, and unbiased。 I think Noah did an incredible job giving metaphors and examples in the right places and at the right time to further solidify the readers understanding of what would typically be a complex topic。 My interest in Buddhism came from reading the book Sapiens - I just wanted to learn more。I didn’t r I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this book! While I don’t particularly like the Q&A format, this is a concise summary of secular Buddhism and well worth the read。 4。0 stars

Easy, to the point & life changing。 This book is great, it’s easy to read, laid out well, answers some important questions that anyone starting Buddhism would want to know or may ponder。 This should be every Buddhist beginners first read。 Love it will be reading it again to be sure to get all my notes。 So excited for this journey。

For me, this is an example of "do not judge a book by its cover"。 This isn't a juvenile book as it's cover appeared (to me) to lean towards。 This is a mature, well-articulated book that touches on the history of Buddhism and examines the different schools in practice & the total lack of conflict between any of these schools or any other religion/belief system for that matter。I was led to the author and his books after finding & appreciating his podcast, in spite of myself。 Both formats have help For me, this is an example of "do not judge a book by its cover"。 This isn't a juvenile book as it's cover appeared (to me) to lean towards。 This is a mature, well-articulated book that touches on the history of Buddhism and examines the different schools in practice & the total lack of conflict between any of these schools or any other religion/belief system for that matter。I was led to the author and his books after finding & appreciating his podcast, in spite of myself。 Both formats have helped me understand the 'lack of conflict' between the schools。I had previously avoided anything that even mentioned 'Secular', thinking that wasn't a path I wanted to consider。 Simply put, I was wrong。 Each path is valid and worth considering before writing any-one off, as I had。 All this being said, I'd recommend this book。。。it could be an eye-opener。。。or not。。。that's up to the reader。 。。。more

Great introduction to BuddhismThis was a great first look at Buddhism。 The author presents the ideas clearly and in a relevant way but he refrains from proselytising, which I found refreshing。 I will continue on my journey and recommend this book to friends。

Great introduction book to Buddhism。

Just as the tile says, very succinct and to the point explanation of Buddhism basics。 If you're just beginning to learn about Buddhism, this is a good book to start。Maybe not so helpful if you are already familiar with Buddhist principles。 Just as the tile says, very succinct and to the point explanation of Buddhism basics。 If you're just beginning to learn about Buddhism, this is a good book to start。Maybe not so helpful if you are already familiar with Buddhist principles。 。。。more

This is a great little book to give you a foundation of what Buddhism is and is not。 I liked that the author understood the perspective I was coming from as a person raised in a Christian institution and the biases or misconceptions I may have。

Listened to this as an audio book, which was really short, 2 and a half hours but it was short enough to be able to listen to in one sitting。 Although it was a bit difficult to listen to all in one sitting as listening to anything for that long is hard to keep interested in when you're driving, it was good overall and entertaining。 Really enjoyed how simple, straight forward and to the point this book is。 Really liked how it talked about the different sects and schisms (for lack of a better word Listened to this as an audio book, which was really short, 2 and a half hours but it was short enough to be able to listen to in one sitting。 Although it was a bit difficult to listen to all in one sitting as listening to anything for that long is hard to keep interested in when you're driving, it was good overall and entertaining。 Really enjoyed how simple, straight forward and to the point this book is。 Really liked how it talked about the different sects and schisms (for lack of a better word) within Buddhism and the differences between them。 Especially enjoyed learning about secular buddhism as I believe it's the closest to what I would follow。 Everything was described in a way that made complete sense and made you really want to start practicing。 Definitely enjoyed! 。。。more
